Friday's Show (U.S.)
« on: August 31, 2018, 03:04:29 PM »
Well, two people I hadn't missed are back.  Shifty Tessa and boring Shauna.  I'm hoping Shauna's storyline will wrap up soon, as the teen summer season is over.  Time for Devon to send her to a great boarding school.  As for Tessa, I'm with Sharon (who I really love these days -- girl does not mince words anymore); I don't trust her.  We'll see what's really up with her.  Even adoring Mariah looked skeptical, I thought.

Cane and Lily didn't bother me, for once.  Their night together was gentle and sweet and CC helped me understand him.

Seeing Devon and Victoria in a scene together, I had a brainstorm -- why not put those two downer drips together?!  What do others think?

But actually Victoria was pretty good in her scenes.  In the scene with Rey, I thought she was pretty strong; for once I could buy her as a high powered executive.  And then when he left and Sharon warned her about the gun, I thought the actress's breakdown/panic attack was very believable and her scenes with Nate were okay.  I definitely prefer skeptical tough broad Victoria to silly or uber-bitchy Victoria.  Not sure about her and Nate moving forward, though.  I can't figure out what to think about Nate, though, so we may all be fine with him disappearing into worshiping Victoria land.  To be honest, though, she was more interesting with Rey -- not coy and not cute/combative, as she had been with Nate.  Maybe he's heading her way so she and Abby can clash about the two brothers.

Overall, it was just really nice not to see Phyllis for once (although she's been very good lately) and it was REALLY nice not to see Summer.

Anyway, that's just my humble opinion as I sit here on pins and needles waiting for all of the paperwork to clear so, after 14 months, we can take possession of the house we've been building . . . .

Victoria dating Devon would be standard fare on Y&R, since she already dated his father Kneel (during her 11-month pregnancy and the premature delivery of Cole's daughter Eve).  She'll probably date his cousin, damsel-in-distress-saving Nate after today's US show, too.

I thought  Cane & Lily spending their possibly last evening without the kids was strange.  I could see a night without the kids, but not the last possible night.

I had no interest in seeing Tessa or Shauna either.  Begone, useless characters!

I'll be honest-- I yelled "Yuck!" at the screen a total of three times in that episode.
Yuck#1-- Shauna is back.  :P
Yuck#2-- Tessa is back.   :P
Yuck#3-- Nate and Victoria.   :P :P

I hope all goes well with your house, Winza!

I doubt Charlie and Shauna's reconciliation will last long once Charlie hears her bash Lily in court.  I think it is inappropriate that she is living alone with Devon.  Where are her parents?  Most rehab lasts 90 days at most.  They should have been home a while ago.

How much you want to bet Tessa is lying again?  My guess is she wants to make a quick buck and will come up with some shady scheme to get it that will get Mariah in a whole bunch of trouble.

"Shady" is a good word for Tessa.  Which makes me sad for ever-hopeful Mariah, who may just give up on love if this one goes south.

As for the house, the sales office (the new house is in a new development) decided to close early for the holiday.  If it wasn't for the project manager, who was at the house doing touch ups himself, we wouldn't have been able to get in.

But we got in.  We got keys.  And now the process of a gradual three-part move will begin, starting with lots of DIY projects like building out the closets the way we want them before the furniture arrives.  Fun!  But we will finally be settled.  Thanks for the kind sentiments!

I wasn't thrilled to see Tessa and Shauna either.  I think Tessa was fine as one of Devon's musical discoveries, even as a friend for Mariah, but IMO she doesn't have the presence to be Mariah's love interest.  Plus, every time she does something sketchy, she always has a "good reason."  I don't see this pattern changing anytime soon.  Mariah should kiss Tessa goodbye before more awful things start happening, and send girlfriend back to Canada with her blessing.

Shauna and Charlie have been cute enough as a summer romance but I don't see a future for this character.  It's inappropriate for Shauna to continue living with Devon while she finishes high school in Genoa City.  Her family needs to conclude their vigil at brother's rehab and order their daughter back home.

For once I didn't mind Lily and Cane's romantic interlude.  Just the kind of sweet memory a husband ought to give his wife before possibly sending her off to prison.  I thought Devon's responses to Cane, Michael, and Victoria were very poignant. Even though I believe Devon will soften at the last minute and request mercy for Lily, I thought the writers did a good job crafting Devon's current point of view.

I have to agree with all you have said here.  I do not think it's appropriate for Shauna to be living with Devon alone either.  It's plot device at this point.

Tessa is very shady.  I agree that she is probably up to something and I think that Kyle's PI will find out what it is

Is it that Tessa is "shady", or is it that Cait Fairbanks is a very weak actor?

I felt the same as Deirdra above, that it felt bizarre for Lily to spend her last dinner/evening without her kids.  I could see her and Cane having quality time alone, but at least have dinner with your kids.

And like everyone else, my heart sank when the dreaded Shawna turned up.  I hope the court hearing will be the end of her.

I enjoy looking at Tessa's beauty the way I used to like watching Hilary's.  Strongly dislike the shady crime angle.  But thank the goddess she didn't bring Crystal with her!

I thought AH was very moving in her panic attack and breakdown talk with Nate.  That was the highlight of the episode to me.  Although it was inappropriate for Dr. Nate to hug her.  But otherwise a great scene.

I was really bothered by Nate's unnecessary touching of Victoria when he arrived, especially since she had been so distant with him before. He immediately started pushing her hair back and did he put his hands on her arms?  Then at his apartment, when he laid his hand over her heart to listen to her left lung from the back, I cringed.  I have a nurse listen to my heart and lungs every month and they have NEVER touched me anywhere except with the stethoscope when doing so.  BTW, he combined the two procedures:  When you listen to the heart you breathe normally; when listening to the lungs, THAT'S when you take deep breaths. Seems someone could have done a quick ask of a medical professional  ::)

What was Victoria doing in Nate's apartment.  He's a concierge doctor who treats patients at their home or place of business, where he was originally treating her. It made no sense for her to be in his apartment.

I thought so too.  And it was also strange when she ran up the stairs to "freshen up" without asking or saying anything; it is not either of her brothers' apartment anymore. He should have escorted her to HER house if he was worried about her.

I thought it strange that she called him in the first place. Racing heart, trouble breathing, she thought it was an allergic reaction. It would make more sense to call for an ambulance. Then she tells him all the personal things she didn't want him to know! How contrived just to throw these two together.

I though it seemed very strange when the next scene they were at Neil's condo. If it was an allergic reaction she probably should have had bloodwork done. If it was her heart, she should have gone to the hospital for an EKG. Why Nate's place? If he had to drive her somewhere it should have been the hospital or her house or hey should have called for an ambulance. He couldn't have known for sure that  it was an anxiety attack. Strange indeed.

My thoughts exactly.  I kept wondering if I missed something.  First, we're in Victoria's office and then we blink and now all of the sudden we're in Neil's house.  Bizarre!

OK, so I wasn't the only one confused. First Victoria asks Dr. Barechest to help her at her office. He comes and offers the usual sage advice. The next time you see them, they have been transplanted to his house. My husband wondered what happened too.

I backed up Tivo to watch again thinking I had missed something!
